Grunert Refrigeration

A Grunert Refrigeration holdover system is not like your common household refrigerator. The availability of 110 volt power is limited on a boat therefore, the refrigerator is not capable of cycling on and off every time the door is opened allowing cold air to escape and the air temperature to increase. Holdover refrigeration enables you to "maintain" box temperatures over a period of time. For instance, imagine the holdover plate as being a large sponge, but instead of absorbing water, it absorbs heat. The holdover plate is sized so that it can continuously absorb heat while the condenser is off. Once the holdover plate has absorbed it's capacity in heat (larger plates have more BTU capacity), the condenser needs to cycle on to remove the heat. All Grunert holdover plates are filled with a eutectic solution that maintains the same temperature through the duration of its holdover period. The freezer plates are frozen at 0 degrees Fahrenheit and the refrigerator plate freezes at 26 degrees Fahrenheit. The refrigerator of freezer's box temperature will be approximately 10 degrees higher than the plate temperature. The condenser needs to run about 1 to 1.5 hours to completely remove the heat in the eutectic solution.

Lugger L6125A (460hp)

Whether you go boating to make a living or live to go boating, you want the engine that gives you the best return on investment. A diesel with low life-cycle costs.

The 6125A is such an engine. It pays high dividends of performance, reliability, long life and low operating costs. It is designed to give you more value per dollar than any other diesel engine.

The 6125A produces 460hp and over 1200 pounds of prop twisting torque. This high torque power comes from big cubic inch displacement. There is no need for over-sized fuel injectors, multi-circuit cooling systems or high RPM settings. In fact, with 674 cid (11 Liters) the 6125 has more cubes than many of its competitors. It's 1.4-2.1 cid per HP ratios are conservative to promote long engine life and its maximum RPM is 2300 instead of 2500 or 2800. Only a Lugger has the features it takes to give you high performance without sacrificing engine life, onboard comfort or fuel economy.

Nodular cast iron pistons with oil spray cooling. Wet, replaceable cylinder liners. Individual, four valve cylinder heads. Freshwater aftercooler. Liquid cooled turbo. Engine and gear oil coolers. Bosch type injection. VDO instrumentation. The list goes on and on so your Lugger will run on and on. Fuel is your largest operational expense. It makes sense to minimize it. The 6125A's SFC (specific fuel consumption rate) goes as low as 0.355 lbs/hp/hr. That's how an engineer says "Saves big bucks at the fuel dock". Compare a Luggers SFC with any engine in its class. And remember, lowering the SFC by only one tenth of a pound per horsepower could save you thousands of fuel dollars over the life of the engine. Extremely compact for its displacement and power, a 6125 will fit in a tight engine room. Unlike a wall to wall vee engine, its inline design makes it easy to service.

A Lugger is a four cycle (4 stroke) diesel engine. It's quieter and cleaner than a two stroke diesel. Individual isolated valve covers, liquid cooled turbo, crankshaft dampener, even the blocks design, all work to reduce noise and vibration. The Lugger 125 series are the only engines in their class with cast nodular iron pistons. This metallurgical break through gives Luggers performance, life and efficiency advantages over engines with one and two piece aluminum pistons. -Equal thermal expansion of the piston and liner allows a closer fit between them. Power loss past rings is reduced. -Keystone shaped compression ring reduces carbon build-up during light load operation. -Iron is stronger than aluminum. This allows the top compression crown minimizing the combustion dead zone and increasing efficiency. Ring inserts are not needed. -Iron transfers heat evenly for longer life. -Dual circuit piston oil cooling allows higher combustion temperatures for more power output per c.i.d., less exhaust smoke and more efficient use of fuel. -Massive wrist pins for strength -Light weight. The 6125 piston weighs only 6.5 lbs. That's less than aluminum pistons used in some competitive engines. -One piece design. It can't come apart and destroy the engine like a two piece piston.
